The topic of fear has been weighing heavy on me as of late.
Happiness doesn’t exist outside of ourselves, but rather in our thoughts and beliefs about that which happens to us. Fear is the root of almost all of our pain, and freedom from fear, or resistance to it, is critical to satisfaction in our work, lives, and relationships.
So, just how are we going to become fearless? Where do we start?
. . .
Choose You
This one is kind of hard for me, but in order to conquer our fears, it’s something we must do. My heart is so big and I want to be everything to everybody. From this point on we are choosing us. I’m not saying I won’t be available to anybody, but we have to come first. God has a will for our lives and I’m pretty sure it is not to be drained of our souls behind other people. It’s time to be just a little selfish. And that’s exactly what we’re gonna do. Sorry, but we need to choose us.
Events
In 2023 and so on I will not be attending every single event just to be included in the “In-crowd”. That is so exhausting. I love attending events and I love networking, but sometimes I feel like I’m going to these events for the wrong reasons. Sometimes I show up in fear of missing the who’s who that are in attendance. I’m afraid that I’ll regret that opportunity to be included. Fear isn’t running this show anymore. This doesn’t apply to every event, of course I’ll be in attendance to many events, but no longer will I be going for the wrong reasons. If I genuinely don’t want to go or can not go to an event for some reason, I AM NOT GOING! (Still invite me though, friends). This doesn’t apply to everything. Seriously, have you ever gone somewhere that you really didn’t want to go in fear that you’ll miss something or the opportunity to meet someone? It’s like a baby that fights his sleep. That will not be my life anymore and that’s that on that.
Be Yourself
Fear has had me acting as if I have to be like others to be recognized. That couldn’t be more false! Opportunities that are for me are just that. FOR ME! What’s for me will not pass me by unless I’m not showing up as myself.. So, for the opportunities that are truly for us, we shouldn’t have any fear because if it’s for us, it will be. I’ve had to ask myself, “What are you afraid of missing out on then?” I find myself sometimes showing up for things that aren’t even mine. Then I get mad when it doesn’t come to fruition. That was not you that showed up anyway. So from now on I think I’ll stick to being myself. All these blessings God throws our way, we better show up so we can catch them. Hey, you may not be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s fine. But we are going to be ourselves for ourselves!
The Takeaway
Fear is a lie, a whole lie. Don’t let it stop you from living your best life. It can and it will if you let it. So in 2023, we all need to combat this fear. Choose YOU friends! Don’t go if you don’t want to! Always, always, always show up as yourself. Now take that fear because WE’VE GOT THIS!
. . .
Holding the right perspective of fear, shifting our focus from that which we cannot control to the things that we surely can, is the key to living and thriving in the face of fear.
If it cannot be controlled, then it would best be forgotten.
