sweater | lip gloss

I have always been a firm believer in wearing clothes and decorating with items that are seasonally appropriate. The same goes for my skincare and makeup routine. With the change of seasons, comes a change in temperature, humidity, sun exposure, and the level of outdoor activities. Warmer months bring hot weather which means we naturally spend more time outside and are more susceptible to sweating our makeup off, getting sunburned, and producing more oils. In the summer, we also love to look tan and bronze, which means the tones and colors of products we use usually need to change. Because of all these reasons, I change many things about the products I use and my routine, so I am sharing a full breakdown of how I transition my makeup into summer.

. . .

:: SPF, SPF, SPF

I am an SPF fanatic and wear it on my face 24/7, 365, but in the summer I lather it up everywhere and reapply it constantly. I love to use this SPF under my makeup. I also like to use a good lip balm with SPF.

:: A FULL-PROOF PRIMER

In order to get melt-proof makeup, it is important to take steps to help makeup stay foolproof throughout the day. A good primer helps keeps everything in place.

:: MORE LIGHTWEIGHT AND NATURAL

I think very natural and light makeup in the summer is not only beautiful but necessary. A full face of makeup could easily be disrupted and move around in the hot summer heat. I only wear what is necessary. I have two types of makeup I like to do depending on the occasion in the summer. For my very minimal days, I will do a tinted moisturizer or skin tint, a cream bronzer, concealer, cream blush for my completion, brow gel, and mascara. On days when I want to look a little glam, I still keep it light, but I add in a lightweight foundation and trade out my cream bronzer for a warm tone powder bronzer with a sheen that I will use to buff all over the shadows of my face and in the crease of my eyelids.

:: WARMER TONES & BRIGHTER COLORS ON THE CHEEKS

In the summer I do not like to do a lot of contouring which is when a more cool tone bronzer comes into play. I love to feel like a bronzed goddess so I will take a warm tone bronzer and buff it all over the edges of my face, onto my cheeks, nose, and chin; leaving the eye area, the middle of my forehead, and my cupids bow brighter. I think warning up the face just gives a just came home from the beach vibe and a natural glow.

In the warmer months when I am maintaining a pretty consistent FAKE tan, I like to add some color to my face with bright pink or coral blush.

:: CREAM BLUSH

A cream blush is perfect for the summer because it has a nice healthy and natural appearance on the skin! It is easy to buff in and reapply later when needed.

:: A GOOD SETTING SPRAY

With the extra oil and sweat, a good setting spray can keep my lightweight application of makeup in place a whole lot longer. I really like this setting spray, but cannot wait to get my hands on this one because it is water-resistant and has callouts for longevity and hydration!

:: USE WATERPROOF MASCARA AT THE BEACH

Anytime I know I am going to be around water, I make sure to apply the waterproof version of my favorite mascara- that way when I get into the water without having to be bare, I also don’t have to worry about mascara running down my cheeks. There is no waterproof version of the mascara I am using currently, but I love this mascara.
